CLIEDIS' Standards Review Committee (SRC) provides a leadership role in Canada's implementation of the ACORD Standards. The committee has three mandates:
- Review the ACORD Standards for Canadian users to ensure they meet Canadian requirements and submit Maintenance Requests (MRs). These requests will generally be because of the unique provisions within Canadian Insurance or Tax laws. As the SRC reviews the ACORD standards, they will also find areas where changes are required to improve the overall usability of the standards worldwide, including Canada. CLIEDIS will not have a mandate to submit MRs that enable international trade, as this is outside CLIEDIS' mandate.
- Establish a series of best practices and implementation guidelines for the Canadian industry to make it easier for every member organization to deliver working solutions.
- Cultivate a community of active users so that there is a base of technical competence that can be shared by the CLIEDIS membership.
- By working together through CLIEDIS, Canadian requirements are aligned and duplication of effort is reduced. This alignment results in a single, stronger message being presented to ACORD on behalf of all Canadian insurers and suppliers to the life insurance industry.
- Membership in CLIEDIS and support for the standards helps advance them as global standards. To the extent the industry recognizes and uses the standards their value to business partners in the life insurance industry increases. Participation by members helps to add value to these standards.
- By working together, members benefit from each other's expertise, making requirements more robust and complete. CLIEDIS provides an opportunity to debate issues and rationalize positions before heading into the hubbub of a busy standards setting committee meeting where there is little opportunity for reflection or timely reference to expert sources. Members freely share their knowledge and expertise with other members.
